It was another great fund raising night to aquire funds for our Scholarship Awards in order to help local students further their education. While having fun and raffling off some great prizes we raised just over $1000.00. A big thanks to everyone who came out and make the night a wonderful success.
For a third year the Brethren of Sherburne Lodge made it out for the Lynnhurst Turkey Dinner, the New Grand Masters first official outing! It was great to have so many of us attend and be there as our new Grand Master lays out his plans for the year!
Once more the Brothers of Sherburne Lodge came out for the Grand Lodge Communication. We had a strong showing all weekend attending all the events as well as the workshops and helped to celebrate the incoming officers for the next year!
It was great to not only have members from our Blue Lodge but our Sisters in the Whittemore Chapter of the OES attend the membership seminar at the Scottish Rite, put on by the Grand Lodge! It was a wonderful session and we learned a lot about ways to increase our membership and keep those members engaged in all we do.
For a 3rd year in a row the Brethren of Sherburne Lodge #95 held their annual Casino Night with their Masonic Brothers. This year having 26 Brothers from 6 differant lodges, one as far away as North Dakota. It was a wonderful gathering with good food and many laughs. This years chip winner was Brother Myron Crawford from Nelson Lodge #135!
Worship Master Steven Walker was happy to receive the young men of Anoka DeMolay as they did a part of the degree work they will be performing at a Tournament in April. They did a great job and we are sure they will do well.
The next night we presented some of those same members with a check for $289.00 dollars to help with the expenses of sending 7 young men on their trip. We hope to also get them matching funds from Minnesota Masonic Charities!
It was great to have our first guest LEO of the year with WB Todd Mayer of Anoka Lodge #30 coming out to speak about our First President and WB George Washington. Not about his Military Exploits, his Presidency or Masonic career, but about his the Whisky Maker that he was.
We also were able to present our Newest Master Masons with their Masonic Bibles for proving up in their Proficiency.
Lastly we had a contingency from Fraternal Lodge #92 who came down to present their Bowling Trophy from their recent Tournament a few weeks ago in which several of our members formed a team and won from them and many other Brothers!
For second year in a row the Brethren of Sherburne Lodge #95 held the Bob Bowersox Highland Table Lodge. Once again it was a wonderful night of the Traditional 7 Toasts and was well attended by many Grand Lodge members as well as Brothers and Friends from over 10 Lodges... Notably Brothers from Anoka Lodge #30 and Nelson Lodge #135. The Musicians and Scottish Dancers were once again a big hit and we were honored to have the Deputy Grand Master of Minnesota, RWB Bob Darling spend the evening with us. The food was great and we were served by the Job's Daughters of Bethel #48.
It was a busy night at Sherburne Lodge as we not only presented our Junior Past Master, Terrance M Schaffer with his Past Masters apron and plaque for his service to the lodge in 2015 but we also had the Proficiency Sword recently captured by our members and by Brother Daniel Crook (Who Proved up to win it) along with the others who traveled with him to get it. Lastly we had a large contingency of Brothers from Arcana Lodge #187 come out and take the Templar Flag from us that we have held since last May. It was so great to have them all as visitors and we hope they come back soon!
The Brothers of Sherburne Lodge went over to Anoka Lodge #30 where our own Brother Andy Crook performed his Master Masons prove up and captured the Proficiency Sword that they had just retrived from Templar Lodge. He did a nice job and he and the Brethren present were happy to take it from the New Worshipful Master Paul Agustin!
It was a wonderful evening as we held our Officer Installation for the 2016 term. Many Brothers took new roles or moved up in the line and once again we had a full roster for the ensuring year. It was great to have not only Past Masters from our own lodge on the Installation team, but also Brothers from two of our closest lodges with whom we gather with, Anoka Lodge #30 and nelson Lodge #135. We look forward towards another great year!
We were lucky to have the members from Anoka Shekinah #104 of the Royal Arch come out and put on the Past Masters Allagory tonight. it was wonderful to see the work done and hear about the York Rite bodies and the Mysteries they contain.
For at least the 3rd year in a row, members of Sherburne Lodge #95 spent some time Bell Ringing at the local Cub Foods for the Savation Army. Singing Chritmas Carols and meeting Brothers from other lodges as they come through to get some groceries!
The Brothers of Sherburne Lodge traveled down to assist our Brethren at Anoka Lodge by making dinner for them at the December Stated Meeting, and thus had a bit of a Fund Raiser for our own lodge. We had a good time socializing with the Brothers there and some good natured teasing about having to cook for them!
For our last quarter of the year, members of Sherburne Lodge went North and visited our Brothers of North Star Lodge #23 in St. Cloud. We had a great dinner and a poignant discussion about trouble facing Masons in other states. It was a great end to this year of Travels and we look forward to new adventures next year!
We held our first Master Masons Degree of the year, drawing on assistance from some older members who had not done work in the lodge for awhile as well as a few Brothers from other lodges. Everyone did a nice job as we welcome two new Master Masons to the lodge and we were so glad to be able to share the day with each other!
We also managed to give out a couple of the Awards we didn't get two the previous week. Our first award was to WB Stoffel Reitsma who received the Dependable Brother Award, for always being there when the lodge needed him this past year. The other was a certificate of Appreciation to WB Tony Oker for all his hard work on the Relay for Life Event!
For a third year we held our annual Awards Night here at Sherburne Lodge, where we presented awards to several members in attendnace. The first being to our Past Master and 40 year member, WB Ron Robbins, who received his certificate and pin for his years of service. The second being to Brother Ken Warneke, who we just could not pass up thanking again for his final year as our Treasurer. Lastly on this night we gave Brother Jeremy Maguire the Extended Cable Tow award, showing our appreciation for his work on the Scholaship Committee as well as spearheading the construction of our makeshift float in this years Parade. We were graced this night by the attendnace of the Deputy Grand Master of Minnesota, RWB Bob Darling who assisted in the Presentations and to whom we gave Grand Honors.
The members of Sherburne Lodge and their Friends and Family got together once again to raise money for not only our WB James LaRock Scholarship Fund but also for the Wounded Warriors Project. The IPAD we raffled off will end up giving 2k to the Project and we made $530.00 for the Scholarship Fund. It was a specail night also because we had the Founder of the Scholarships Son, Steven LaRock and his lovely wife Jackie. Also the Grand Master of Minnesota, MWB John Gann stopped in for a good smoke!
It was wonderful to be invited to attend our Area Deputies Hiram Award Dinner held at the Earl Brown Heritage Center. WB Don Nolley is most deserving of the award and it was an honor to be there for him as a lodge!
The lodge was so happy to be able to serve Hot Dogs, Chips and Water to the Elk River Community as they came out to attend the Elk River Fire Depatements Open House Event. We gave out 160 meals in just over an hour, it was a great time and Fire Chief John Cunningham invited us back again next year.
